Video Tips From Experience
Do YOU want videography success ? I share what I learnt and so can you.
From my recent volunteer mission as videographer on an 18 day mission to Vietnam I learned several key video tips. Some I already knew but some totally surprised me.
I learn fast and here I share with you my tips so your videography project will be a success. For an extended version of this article read Videography Tips For Your Video Success on my Ezinearticles Page.
1) Don’t assume you will only be holding the camera & capturing video. You may also have to jump in and be the producer, coreographer & editor – be ready to do everything
2) Make sure you have enough battery power, like several batteries – enough to power a full day of camera work
3) Have a travel backpack you can easily carry & access during your daily video hopping
4) Have a long extension chord for your room when you backup & recharge your batteries each evening. My hotel rooms typically had only 1 easily accessible
5) Backup your videos each evening to an external drive if not 2. Mistakes made during the day can be corrected next day. Don’t lose any videos
6) Have a laptop with video viewer so you can review your videos to ensure you have the shots you want that aren’t jerky or out of focus
7) Ensure you have enough spare SD memory cards
8) Have a wrist strap attached to your camera. If your hand slips you have 1 more chance to save your camera from bouncing on the concrete
9) The wrist strap should have some branding on it like your country flag. Mine was a red TEDx and actually started several conversations
10) Wear hiking shorts with LOTS of pockets. I had SD cards, batteries, notepad, pen and everything else in every pocket
11) Have a main backpack that carries all your video gear as carry-on when travelling. But for your day-to-day shoots, have a smaller backpack you can strap onto your back while you are shooting
12) Tripods are big & bulky. I had a telescopic carbon monopod which was great at getting me into tight spots very fast. Also adjusts quickly on-the-fly
13) You may have a story in mind but be prepared to follow a segway story or 2 that may unravel right in front of you
14) Always have your video camera at hand during your filming day – even in the evening when you are out for dinner with your team
15) Always have a paper pad in pocket with a pen to take notes for yourself. An audio recorder on your smart phone will be more effecient

16) Always have your camera visible so your subjects get use to you & may not even know when you are filming to capture that candid shot
That sums up my video tips. Hope this helps to make your video work a success, beit a documentary or just an informational promo video you are working on.
