My Website Story – How this site came about …
This is a short narrative of how this website began & evolved. My Toastmasters home club is still Silver Springs Toastmasters.
This podcast and website series began in Jan of 2009. At that time I split the load between 2 sites; podbean for the audio podcast portion and wordpress for the blog part. That kept me well and fine. But about a year later, I developed migraines in supporting 2 different environments, having 2 totally different menuing systems. Imagine, I thought to myself, how it must be to my visitors? Perhaps it was confusing to many. So I realized, why not “keep it simple” and have “one and only one” website. A novel idea I thought!
After several failed attempts over the past several months, during the past several weeks, I began an intensive effort to, “find the next BIG thing” for my website. What are the latest web trends? What are some nice sites? What do I really want? My eyes were fried. I came across many nice, even excellent sites.
But, the light came on one evening in a spectacular show of brilliance, when I so eloquently told myself (no, I didn’t answer myself), the problem with many websites is that they are like “brick walls of intricate graphics drowned in adbars” that do NOT invite any interaction for its visitors or users“. They are strictly one-way! They may have fared well in the 70′s & 80′s. But today, EVERYTHING is moving to a totally social ( i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn, FaceBook, YouTube, MySpace) and interactive web presence. And since this is my HPL (High Performance Leadership) project, I wanted to make my podcast and blog site a truly interactive, 2-way, collaborative effort …. between YOU and me ( …. it’s not just ME … ).
Did I succeed? Well, I leave that up to you. You decide …
So, there you have it. Not as short a narrative as I would have liked. But it does express my sentiment at what I wanted to accomplish and deliver.
Feel free to drop me some feedback. I always enjoy hearing other peoples’ opinion.
Hope you enjoy my site.
