Everyone’s an Expert ( about something ) by Seth Godin  – Seth Godin first got my attention while I was listening to him being interviewed on 1 of my favorite podcasts. Him being approximately the same age as me allowed me to relate to his statement. He said, “The system has failed many people”. People who have educated themselves and worked up thru various jobs and gained valuable experience, still find themselves vulnerable to job loss. You would hope people would become more valuable and dispense with jobloss. Much the same can be seen in the investment world. Invest your hard earned money to ensure future security. It appears that investments take care of a very small few, in comparison to all the millions who invest. Work hard and you will eventually be rewarded, yes, but our economy has turned into more of a “survival of the fittest” or so it seems at times. I subscribe to his blog and regularly read his commentary, as it is more to the reality of where things are.

5 Secrets to Business Success by Richard Branson

One point which Richard Branson makes which you seldom, if ever hear, is to ensure you also learn from your mistakes. Most success articles almost always (atleast the one’s I read), assume you will be successful on your first attempt. Nothing could be further from the truth. Failures have their purpose also. Sometimes you learn MORE from your failures than from your successes. So failing is OK, as long as you don’t bet the “family farm” on it, beit money, time or resources and can quickly recover from it. Failing also builds a base to enjoy your eventual success. Let’s face it. Success is nice, but if you achieve it too fast 1) you may not fully appreciate it and 2) you may become too cocky, over confident and take many aspects on the way to your success for granted. These detriments may lead to your further downfall down the road, which you may not be able to recover from as easily.
